Job summary

A leading NHS Trust in the UK is seeking a Locum Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Locum Consultant Obstetrics and Gynaecology

Job Plan

A standard full time Job Plan will contain 10 programmed activities (PAs) comprising 8 PAs for direct clinical care (DCC) and 2 for supporting activities (SPAs). 1.5 SPAs are core and cover training, teaching, CPD, audit, appraisal, clinical governance and attendance at service meetings. The post may require working across HUTH and NLAG sites depending on service needs. Induction and additional training provision for Badgernet and Lorenzo will be arranged.

Main Duties
  • Provide flexible on‑call Obstetrics, Acute Gynaecology, Elective Obstetric activity (ELSCS, ANC, ADU/Triage cover) and Gynaecology activity (General GOPD, Minor Ops, 2WW clinics, Gynaecology elective theatres).
  • Support service development within outpatient and surgical management of complex gynaecology patients.
  • Work the resident on‑call rota: Nights Monday‑Thursday 8:30 pm‑8:30 am (1.7 weeks) with second non‑resident consultant support; Friday 8 am‑9 pm (1.7).
  • Collaborate with Business team and Clinical Leads to provide schedule of activity upon appointment.
  • Incorporate 30 minutes of admin time into all clinic sessions.
Additional Information

All clinic sessions include 30 minutes of admin time incorporated. Flexible sessions will relate to the applicant’s specialist skills and service needs to be discussed with management after appointment.

Person Specification
Professional Registration
  • Full Registration with the GMC
  • GMC Specialist Registration (or expected within 6 months)
Qualifications and Training
  • MRCOG (UK) or appropriate specialist registration*
  • Relevant CCT or equivalent
  • Must be expecting to receive CCT within the next six months to be eligible for interview.
  • All other candidates must already be on the GMC Specialist Register.
  • Postgraduate qualification in Education or significant experience in postgraduate training
Clinical Experience
  • Ability to offer sound clinical opinion on range of acute Obstetric and Gynaecological conditions
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
  • ATSM's
  • SITM's
  • Satisfactory ARCP's during training years
  • Prior consultant level experience Specialist skills to complement the service
Management and Administration Experience
  • Ability to manage and lead teams
  • Ability to lead on smooth and efficient running of the unit
  • Ability to organise, prioritise and manage high intensity workload
  • Ability to develop, present and operationalise coherent ideas for service development/delivery
Teaching, Audit and Research
  • Experience of supervising junior medical staff
  • Commitment to formal and informal teaching of medical staff, AHPs and medical students

  • Ability to extrapolate clinical research evidence to care for individual patients
  • Evidence of having conducted a practice‑changing audit
