Overview

A vacancy at University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (UHBW). Applications are invited for a 12-month fixed term Locum Consultant Interventional Cardiologist in Structural Heart at the Bristol Heart Institute. We are looking for an experienced and outstanding individual to join our existing team.

UHBW NHS Foundation Trust is a dynamic group of hospitals in Bristol, offering general medical and emergency services as well as specialist services across the region. The Trust is working in partnership with NBT to form a Hospital Group with a shared ambition to deliver seamless, high-quality, equitable and sustainable care across Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire.

In Spring 2025, a Group Cardiac Service has formed between NBT and UHBW, operating as a joined-up service delivered across two Trusts. Cardiac Services will be led by a single leadership team, with UHBW acting as the lead organisation.

Responsibilities
  • Integrate into the existing cardiology team to provide core cardiology services including clinic, ward work, and acute medical unit rounds.
  • Provide training to rotating SpRs and Fellows.
  • Have specialist sessions in structural heart, including ward rounds and MDTs.
  • Maintain approximately four sessions per week in the Cath lab, with 1-2 lists per month on the NBT site for PCI.
  • Provide clinical leadership for the department and develop the strategy for the structural heart service.
  • Contribute to opportunities to develop research within the service.
  • Annotate and contribute to the ongoing development of the structural heart service to the highest level.

Additional Information

The post may involve leadership responsibilities and involvement in the Joint Clinical Strategy to tackle health inequalities and improve outcomes.
