Job description

Role title: Localisation Project Manager

Department: Product Team

Duration: 6 Month fixed term contract

Reporting to: Product Manager

Location: Remote UK or Office (Edinburgh)

Salary: £15-18k

About the role

We are looking for an organised, detail-oriented Localisation Project Manager to lead a six-month project to bring Sumdog Maths to life in Welsh for primary schools across Wales. This role will oversee the end-to-end localisation of our learning platform; coordinating translation, review, QA, and deployment, to ensure that every Sumdog question meets the highest standards of linguistic accuracy, educational suitability, and user experience.

Working three days per week, you will manage a complex schedule involving multiple content types, stakeholders, and delivery phases. A key part of the role will be maintaining quality across large volumes of bilingual educational content, identifying risks early, and ensuring consistency of terminology and tone throughout the project.

This is an exciting opportunity to shape how Welsh-medium learners engage with Sumdog and to help expand access to high-quality digital learning across Wales. If you have a strong command of Welsh, experience running multi-component localisation or content projects, and a passion for education, we’d love to hear from you.

About You

You are a detail-oriented, thorough and highly organised professional who takes pride in delivering accurate, high-quality work. You communicate clearly and confidently with a wide range of people and you know how to keep complex projects moving forward with transparency and momentum.

You’re motivated by meaningful work and are driven by the mission of helping every child reach their full potential. You take time to understand the needs of teachers, parents and children, and you recognise how important culturally and linguistically appropriate content is to their learning experience.

Curious and always learning, you enjoy refining processes, exploring new ways of working, and developing your own skills along the way. You are decisive when needed, comfortable making informed calls at pace, and open to constructive feedback that improves outcomes.

Although you collaborate well and value the strengths of a diverse team, you are also confident working independently, managing your own time, anticipating risks, and keeping stakeholders aligned without needing close supervision.

Above all, you believe in inclusion and in creating solutions that serve all learners. You bring respect for the Welsh language, an appreciation of regional variation, and a commitment to ensuring every piece of content supports Welsh-medium children to learn, play and succeed.

Essential Requirements
  • Welsh speaker (proficient)
  • Experience managing complex multi-component projects
  • Experience creating and maintaining complex project schedules
  • Ability to identify risks in scheduling, translation accuracy, or content gaps, and propose mitigation plans.
  • Ability to work within a pre-defined project budget
  • Knowledge of localisation workflows (translation, review, QA, deployment).
  • Attention to detail for language and content QA, especially in bilingual contexts.
  • Experience working on educational content to be used in schools
  • Available 3 days per week for 6 months
  • Technical proficiency – comfortable with collaborating online and at times asynchronously
  • Ability to communicate with technical and non-technical teams, e.g., developers, designers, curriculum specialists.
Preferable Requirements
  • Awareness of how translation impacts UI/UX, especially in games or interactive content.
  • Experience working with CMS platforms
  • Experience working on educational content for digital platforms
  • Understanding of the Welsh curriculum (Curriculum for Wales)
  • Experience with translating English – Welsh
  • Experience developing Welsh terminology guidelines or style guides.
  • Knowledge of regional Welsh language variants (useful if Sumdog needs standardisation)
What we offer
  • A meaningful project with real impact – Help bring Sumdog to Welsh-medium learners and contribute directly to narrowing the attainment gap across Wales.
  • Flexible, part-time working – A 3-days-per-week contract over six months, with flexibility around how and when you work.
  • Supportive, mission-driven team – Work with people who care deeply about education, inclusion and improving learning outcomes for all children.
  • Collaborative, open culture – Join a team that values communication, feedback and shared problem-solving.
  • Opportunities to grow – Build your expertise in localisation, education technology, and cross-functional project delivery, with space to learn and experiment.
  • Remote-friendly working environment – Work online and asynchronously with colleagues across disciplines, supported by clear tools and processes.
  • Competitive project rate – Compensation reflective of your experience and the specialised nature of the role.
About Sumdog

In 2010, our founder Andrew Hall set out to create an engaging platform that would support children from all backgrounds with their maths practice and create an even playing field amongst learners.

Sumdog has now been used by millions of children worldwide. Providing numeracy and spelling practice for children aged 5‑14, it adapts to each individual using engaging game‑based learning to motivate and build confidence.

Sumdog is guided by core values that have been designed in partnership with our team.

  • Driven by our mission. To narrow the attainment gap by helping every child reach their full potential.
  • In tune with teachers, parents and children. To understand the needs of teachers, parents and children. Our solutions are born from these needs.
  • Always learning. To ensure that our people are developed alongside our products. We experiment our way to success and value continuous personal development.
  • Decisive. We make decisions at pace because the greatest risk is standing still. While making decisions, we encourage constructive feedback. We don’t fear failure because we work in a supportive environment.
  • Collaborative. Together, we have the power to solve seemingly unsolvable problems. We do it all the time.
  • Inclusive. We aim to serve children from all backgrounds. To do that, we seek to work within a diverse team who embrace differences.
