Job summary

A political organization in the UK is seeking a Qualified Solicitor to provide legal advice and support to its General Counsel. The role includes assisting Labour councillors with local government law and compliance issues while engaging with diverse stakeholders. Salary

£58,084.17 per annum, with fixed sum allowance £1,153. Potential progression to £64,693.99 over next 2 years. London weighting £3,650 per annum if based London.

Responsibilities

The post-holder will provide legal advice and support to the General Counsel and related staff. Provide specialist advice to Labour councillors on local government law, including standards regimes and compliance. Work with external private practice lawyers as required. Continually assess the Party’s compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications
  • Qualified solicitor or barrister with significant PQE, proven track record of quickly understanding diverse legal issues and pragmatic advice. In-house legal experience desirable.
  • Strong legal research and analytical skills, ability to develop expertise in unfamiliar areas of law, sound judgment to assess legal risk and provide proportionate, practical advice under pressure.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, build rapport with diverse stakeholders including elected councillors, explain complex legal concepts to lay audiences.
  • Political awareness and sensitivity without compromising legal independence, ability to work in sensitive environments, tight deadlines, confidentiality in political matters.
