Overview

Learning Support Assistant - Teaching Assistant - SEN - Bath. This is a role for a psychology graduate interested in working with neurodiverse children and young people. The school is based in Bath and provides support for secondary aged pupils who have a wide range of learning and behavioural needs. All students have an Education Health Care Plan (EHCP) detailing their care and support needs. The needs of the students are considered mild compared with other special schools in the area. The school offers a therapeutic curriculum and aims to help students achieve GCSE and Functional Skills qualifications, with a focus on building understanding in key subjects such as maths and English. The job involves supporting this journey and helping pupils access further education or training.

Responsibilities
  • Support students with a range of learning and behavioural needs in a specialist secondary school environment in Bath.
  • Work with pupils who have EHCPs to implement effective communication and support strategies.
  • Provide extensive 1-1 support and collaborate with a range of therapists including SALTs, Occupational therapists, psychologists and counsellors within designated therapy rooms and areas.
  • Use specialist communication methods such as Makaton and PECS.
  • Contribute to preparing pupils for GCSE subjects and help build a curriculum that works for their individual needs.
  • Be aligned with the school’s objective and consider continuing a journey to become a speech and language therapist.
