Responsibilities
- The post holder is responsible to their line manager and to the Phase Leader for their duties, responsibilities, and tasks.
- The post holder will adhere to the school's values and vision, abiding by the agreed policies and procedures to ensure provision is of the highest quality.
- The post holder undertakes support for the teachers of the children within the school and the associated pastoral and administrative duties in respect of those pupils as well as the general responsibilities in the school as agreed with the Headteacher.
- The post holder will interact on a professional level with all colleagues and establish and maintain good working relationships which will promote the development and effective delivery of the school curriculum and maximise children's achievement.
- The post holder will be responsible for the pastoral care and safeguarding of the children within their session, class or groups, ensuring that children's safety, wellbeing and welfare are at the forefront of all they do.
- To implement agreed work programmes with individual pupils/groups and support teaching staff in the development and education of pupils, including the provision of detailed and specialist skills/knowledge in particular areas.
- To assist the teacher in the whole planning, teaching, and assessment cycle.
- To supervise and lead groups of children (including during lunchtime).
- To implement all policies and practices in line with the ethos of the school.
- Through reflective practice, support a creative, inclusive curriculum which values learning through and smaller group working practices.
- To support excellent progress for children across all areas of development through effective participation in observation, assessment and planning.
- To help create a stimulating environment which supports learning.
- To support parents in becoming competent.
- We are seeking a calm, compassionate, and highly committed Learning Support Assistant to provide dedicated 1:1 support to a pupil at a welcoming, inclusive, and forward‑thinking primary school in Shepton Mallet.
Qualifications and Experience
- Essential qualifications: GCSE in Maths and English (grade 4).
- Communication, IT, attention to detail, organisation, customer care, problem solving, presentation, administrative, analytical, logical, team working, creative, initiative, non‑judgemental, and patience skills.
- Experience in supporting children with high needs and SEND and assisting with personal care and medical support (for the Leeds Supply Service role).
- Experience in a specialist college environment (for the Windsor Forest Colleges Group role).
- Experience in a further education college (for the Brooklands Technical College role).
Compensation and Hours
- Shepton Mallet: 37 hours per week, 37 weeks per year – £24,105.57 FTE (actual £20,359.93) BRK20 (happy to discuss part‑time options for the right candidate).
- Brooklands Technical College: to be confirmed.
- Leeds Supply Service: to be confirmed.
- Windsor Forest Colleges Group: 29.5 hours per week on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
- East Grinstead (Autism Learning Support Assistant): salary to be confirmed.
- Primary School – Liss: £95 – £105 per day.

Apprenticeship – Teaching Assistant (Level 3)
- Training Apprenticeships include time away from working for specialist training.
- Study to gain professional knowledge and skills.
- Training schedule: 16 months online/remote learning.
- Allocated tutor support throughout the apprenticeship.
- Requirements: GCSE in Maths and English (grade 4) plus other relevant qualifications.
- Skills: communication, IT, attention to detail, organisation, customer care, problem solving, presentation, administrative, analytical, logical, team working, creative, initiative, non‑judgemental, patience.
- After this apprenticeship, the right candidate may be offered a permanent position after completion of the apprenticeship.
