An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Lead Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon to join a brand-new, purpose-built veterinary hospital in Leicestershire. This role offers the chance to partner with the Clinical Director in maintaining clinical excellence, supporting team development, and driving the ongoing success of the practice.

This is more than just another veterinary role—it’s an opportunity to take the reins, shape the future of a new hospital, and lead a highly skilled and supportive clinical team.

The Opportunity

The Lead Veterinary Surgeon will step into a state-of-the-art hospital equipped with the latest facilities, a dedicated nursing team, and a stable, experienced group of clinicians—including several certificate holders. Working across a varied caseload, from routine care to complex cases, the successful candidate will provide clinical leadership, mentor graduates, and ensure the highest standards of patient care.

A key responsibility will be to oversee the transition of an existing practice into the new premises, supporting growth and service expansion. With the support of a strong administrative team (HR, H&S, and finance), the Lead Vet will be free to focus on clinical and team leadership, ensuring the smooth running of day-to-day operations.

What’s on Offer
  • A four-day working week with protected admin time, ensuring a strong work-life balance.
  • Hours: 8:00–18:00 or 8:30–18:30, plus 1:5 weekend rota.
  • Out-of-hours supported by an experienced night nurse team (moving to a dedicated night vet team in the near future).
  • Leadership training, CPD support, and freedom to pursue clinical interests.
  • A collaborative team environment with access to colleagues holding postgraduate certificates across multiple disciplines.
  • The opportunity to influence practice culture, mentor the next generation, and shape the clinical direction of the hospital.
The Ideal Candidate
  • An experienced veterinarian with proven leadership ability.
  • A certificate holder (essential, ideally in medicine bias or imaging).
  • Skilled in clinical decision-making, diagnostics, and case management.
  • Confident, collaborative, and able to inspire and support colleagues.
  • Committed to maintaining high standards of patient care and client service.
  • Calm under pressure and thrives in a dynamic, forward-thinking environment.

This role is perfectly suited to an ambitious, motivated vet seeking the chance to lead with purpose, make meaningful decisions, and grow within a supportive and progressive environment.

Join the team and be at the forefront of something special—leading a brand-new hospital into its next exciting chapter.
