About the Role

Harrogate College are seeking a Lead Skills Teacher with specialist subject expertise for our Motor Vehicle department.

We welcome applications from individuals with industry experience who are looking to transition into teaching, as well as those with a background in education.

You will teach full-time students in our fully kitted Motor Vehicle workshop, with a new EV workshop beginning construction as part of our new build project. This is an exciting opportunity to join an expanding area of the curriculum that boasts continued learner success and achievement.

You will be required to teach learners in full time study, across all the levels of Motor Vehicle. You will teach the following types of programmes :

  • 16-18-year-old Study Programmes
  • 19+ learners who are on Study programmes

What You Will Do

The successful candidate must have a passion for Motor Vehicle and the ability to enthuse and motivate technicians of the future. Previous experience of working with young people would be advantageous. You must have the drive, determination, and desire to make a difference to young people's lives through education.

  • You will provide current, specialist subject expertise in a skills shortage area for teaching delivery.
  • Maintain links with the sector and help ensure the curriculum content reflects the latest industrial or professional practice.
  • Ensure the curriculum delivery team are aware of the latest developments within the sector and have recent CPD and industrial updating.
  • Prepare and teach on a range of Motor Vehicle Service, (PHEV, Electrical Vehicle,) and Repair courses.
  • Contribute to aspirational teaching, learning and assessment.
  • Keep accurate records for learners’ progress in college.
About You
  • Possess, or be willing to work towards a L5 Teaching Qualification (e.g. Cert Ed, PGCE).
  • Hold a relevant vocational / technical qualification or degree in teaching subject.
  • Relevant recent experience in the subject sector area and clear expertise.
  • Relevant up to date subject knowledge.
  • Have an appreciation of relational practice.
