Job Summary:

We are looking for an experienced and proactive Lead Permitter / Scheduler to oversee the permitting process and project scheduling for a variety of operational projects. In this leadership role, you will manage permit submissions, maintain compliance with regulatory standards, and coordinate scheduling activities across teams to ensure smooth project execution from start to finish.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the preparation, submission, and tracking of permit applications across multiple councils and projects.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for all permitting agencies, utility companies, local transport networks and internal stakeholders.
  • Supervise and mentor permitting / scheduling staff to ensure consistent quality and performance.
  • Coordinate project schedules in alignment with permitting timelines, regulatory deadlines, and resource availability.
  • Monitor the permitting lifecycle to identify and resolve bottlenecks or compliance issues proactively.
  • Maintain and manage a central permitting and scheduling dashboard for leadership reporting.
  • Liaise with project managers, engineers, supervisors, external contractors and field teams to ensure alignment on permitting status and work schedules.
  • Develop and refine processes for improved efficiency in permit acquisition and scheduling practices.
  • Stay up to date with changes in permitting requirements.
  • Generate detailed reports on permitting progress, project timelines, and resource allocation.

Requirements:

Experience in permitting, project scheduling, or a related coordination role is preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of permitting processes and regulatory compliance within civil engineering and highways.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing project schedules and leading cross-functional coordination.
  • Strong leadership and team mentoring skills.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project scheduling tools (e.g., MS Project).
  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents, site plans, or technical drawings.
  • Excellent communication skills including liasing with key stakeholders both internally and externally.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey complex information clearly and confidently to stakeholders at all levels, both internally and externally.
  • Professional and courteous telephone manner

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience dealing with council permit applications (Mayrise / Confirm).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • GCSE (or equivalent) grade 5 in Maths and English Language
  • Full Driving License
