Job description

Power / Refinery / COMAH Mechanical Engineer £73k plus car bonus pension

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and contribute to mechanical asset optimisation projects across England, including supporting planned and unplanned outages.
  • Provide expert mechanical engineering advice across heat and power assets, auxiliary plant, and mechanical pipework systems.
  • Support the development and delivery of risk‑based maintenance strategies and ensure compliance with PSSR and national standards.
  • Assist with mechanical and boiler maintenance contract management, including technical input into procurement and contractor performance reviews.
  • Define and deliver mechanical engineering solutions to improve asset performance within defined project budgets and objectives.
  • Act as a Technical Authority for mechanical asset governance, supporting the update of IMS documents and safety rules.
  • Collaborate closely with O&M teams, Design teams, and other teams to foster a culture of Process Safety and continuous improvement.
  • Support incident investigations, Panels of Inquiry, and lessons learned exercises across Renewables sites.
  • Ensure all work is aligned with financial standards and procurement principles.
What we need from you
  • A relevant Mechanical Engineering degree, HNC, or equivalent.
  • Significant experience with boilers and auxiliary mechanical plant in the power or heat generation sectors.
  • Strong working knowledge of PSSR regulations and guidance for steam and hot water boilers.
  • Proven experience delivering engineering projects and working within multi-disciplinary teams.Ability to diagnose operational problems, develop innovative solutions, and manage contracts.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and produce clear reports.
  • Business financial awareness and experience managing project budgets.
