A leading engineering firm in the UK seeks a Lead Electrical & Control Systems Engineer to take charge of electrical designs and lead a team in a hybrid work environment. This role includes overseeing the full project life cycle in the energy sector and requires strong technical skills in PLC systems and electrical engineering. This organisation delivers complex, safety-critical projects across power generation and wider utilities, combining deep technical expertise with long-term project delivery and stability.
This is a hands-on Lead role, combining technical delivery with team leadership. You\'ll take ownership of electrical and control system designs, guide engineers through the full project life cycle, and act as a key technical interface with customers and project stakeholders.
Lead and drive electrical, control, and instrumentation design activities
Act as technical authority, reviewing and approving designs produced by the team
Produce and oversee system designs including schematics, wiring diagrams, layouts, and design packs
Design and review PLC-based control panels, cabling systems, MCCs, drives, and switchgear
Interpret customer specifications and develop compliant, fit-for-purpose solutions
Support tenders, cost estimates, site surveys, testing, and commissioning activities
Ensure compliance with engineering standards, procedures, and project timelines
Strong background in electrical and control systems within energy, utilities, or similar regulated environments
Experience with PLC-based control systems and control panel design
Solid understanding of field cabling systems, calculations, earthing, and protection
Ability to lead technically, mentor others, and communicate confidently with clients
Degree or HND (with relevant experience) in Electrical Engineering or similar
Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel when required
Genuine technical leadership role, not just a senior individual contributor
Exposure to full project life cycle work in complex energy environments
