Job description

Lead CFD/MHD Engineer

Location: Exact location TBC, Didcot parkway area (hybrid)

Salary: Depending on experience (negotiable)

You will work at an exciting client creating and manufacturing an innovative energy storage solution for an 100% clean grid.

Role Description

You will build out our clients thermofluids simulation capability, with a focus on transient modelling of plasmas in a complex flow field. The simulations will go hand in hand with their ongoing experimental development programme to enhance designs and allow them to accurately predict the performance of future versions of the product.

This is a unique opportunity to build a simulation toolchain from the ground up and, over time, build out and lead the simulation team that uses it.

Skills/Qualifications/Experience
  • An engineering, physics, or applied mathematics background, with a minimum of a PhD + 2 years in industry, or a Masters + 5 years in industry.
  • Extensive experience of analysing complex thermofluids problems, for example involving high-speed flow, heat transfer, multi-phase flow or reacting flows.
  • Ideally have experience performing MHD simulations or other simulations involving plasmas.
  • Have knowledge of commercial and/or open source thermofluids analysis tools such as STAR-CCM+, ANSYS Fluent, COMSOL Multiphysics, OpenFOAM, and have demonstrated the ability to extend their capabilities with user-defined functions.
  • Proficient in programming, for example in Python for post-processing, and with some knowledge of Bash shell scripting.
  • Experience in the setup, management, and use of cloud-based HPC solutions
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to clearly communicate results to a multidisciplinary team
  • Ideally have experience leading a small team of engineers, with a willingness to perform this role in the near future.
