Lead Building Standards Surveyor

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and enthusiastic lead building standards surveyor who will act as a lead officer providing operational and professional support in terms of the Council’s statutory Building Standards function and to provide leadership and guidance to staff with a clear emphasis on improvement, performance delivery and customer service.

This is an ideal time to join Renfrewshire Council as our transformational programme continues to be implemented, while exciting and ambitious developments including those related to City Deal, Cultural Infrastructure and our Housing investment programme that seek to positively shape Renfrewshire for years to come.

It is essential you are educated to degree level or equivalent in a construction related discipline and are a member of an appropriate professional body or be willing to work towards gaining professional accreditation within an agreed time scale.

You must have considerable and relevant experience within a Local Authority Building Standards environment and experience of dealing with a range of building warrant applications.

A comprehensive knowledge of Technical Handbooks and the Building (Scotland) Act 2003 and associated legislation is essential as are effective IT Skills, communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills.

You must have the ability to lead, develop and support a professional team, prioritise your workload, meet deadlines with minimal supervision and have an understanding of Best Value and Customer oriented working practices.

It is essential you hold a Driving Licence.
