A local authority council in the United Kingdom is looking for an experienced Lead Building Standards Surveyor to provide leadership in their Building Standards function. The successful candidate will be responsible for operational support, managing building warrant applications, and guiding the team towards improvement in performance and customer service. An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and enthusiastic lead building standards surveyor who will act as a lead officer providing operational and professional support in terms of the Council’s statutory Building Standards function and to provide leadership and guidance to staff with a clear emphasis on improvement, performance delivery and customer service.

It is essential you are educated to degree level or equivalent in a construction related discipline and are a member of an appropriate professional body or be willing to work towards gaining professional accreditation within an agreed time scale.
You must have considerable and relevant experience within a Local Authority Building Standards environment and experience of dealing with a range of building warrant applications.
A comprehensive knowledge of Technical Handbooks and the Building (Scotland) Act 2003 and associated legislation is essential as are effective IT Skills, communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills.
You must have the ability to lead, develop and support a professional team, prioritise your workload, meet deadlines with minimal supervision and have an understanding of Best Value and Customer oriented working practices.
It is essential you hold a Driving Licence.
