Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 8b Lead Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) to join the forward‑thinking Emergency Department team. The role combines 50 % direct clinical care with 50 % clinical leadership and management responsibilities. University Hospital Southampton, one of England’s largest acute teaching Trusts, offers a wide range of learning and development opportunities to support your career aspirations. What you’ll do

As Lead ACP for the Emergency Department you will work closely with other ACPs/tACPs, senior nurses, consultant leads, directors of major trauma, matrons, the care group manager and the divisional director of nursing/professions. You will lead on all aspects of advanced clinical practice, focusing on patient safety, experience and quality assurance frameworks. The role involves providing managerial and professional support to all ACPs/tACPs across emergency care, ensuring delivery of the four pillars of advanced practice. You will act as a key decision maker with the multidisciplinary team, supporting the safe implementation of an advanced practice strategy in line with research, policy, national standards and the Nursing & Midwifery Council Code.

What we’re looking for

The successful applicant will have proven experience as a credentialled emergency care ACP and a track record of leadership within emergency care. Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills, as well as the ability to demonstrate a compassionate approach to the care of patients and the public, are essential. We seek a confident, well‑organised, strong, visible leader with high standards, excellent clinical skills and extensive experience of working within emergency care. Experience in a major trauma centre and a passion for continual improvement will be valued.
