Overview
Due to a retirement, we are looking for a new band 6 Specialist Kidney Dietitian. This is a 37.5 hours post.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
- The post holder will manage the dietetic care for consultant-led renal clinics and provide dietetic cover to a haemodialysis satellite unit, dialysing over 100 patients per week.
- Clinically manage a caseload of patients with complex kidney needs – both on the dialysis unit and as outpatients – and attend MDT treatment discussion meetings.
- Clinically supervise band 5 Rotational Dietitians and students.
- Support the Clinical Lead Dietitian in continually developing and evolving the Renal Dietetic team, providing guidance, training and policy development.
- Support the wider Dietetic team and contribute to the team's integration within the broader Dietetic Department.
- Provide cover to 4–5 renal multidisciplinary consultant-led clinics per week, including a monthly advanced kidney care clinic for stage 5 patients.
- Provide dietetic cover to a haemodialysis satellite unit, addressing the needs of over 100 patients per week and attending monthly multidisciplinary meetings.
- Offer advice to colleagues on the management of patients with kidney disease across the East Lancashire Health Trust (ELHT).
- Engage in the training and assessment of students on their placement, supporting A, B, C placements and Dietitian Apprenticeships.
- Contribute to Medical and other health care professional training, reflecting East Lancashire’s status as a teaching hospital.
Team Composition & Working Environment
- The Renal Dietetic team consists of a Band 7 Clinical Lead Dietitian, a band 6 Specialist Dietitian, and Band 5 rotational Dietitians, supported by clinical support workers.
- The department has over 70 staff, of which 45 are Dietitians, along with Dietetic Assistants, Assistant Practitioners and admin staff.
- Electronic patient record systems include EMIS for outpatients and Cerner for inpatients; Renal Dietitians also have access to pathology and records from the Renal Hub at Preston.
- The post holder will be primarily based at the Blackburn Dialysis unit but is expected to work across all East Lancashire Dietetic localities, with close collaboration with colleagues at Preston.
Location & Accessibility
East Lancashire has good transport links to Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool and beyond, and is close to the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District.
