Job description

Acute Medical Unit (AMU) Overview

The Acute Medical Unit (AMU) at Aintree comprises a 13-spaced trolley assessment area (MAB/FAB) for Acute Medicine Assessment, 2 side rooms and a 4-bed High Care Area. There is also a drop-off bay for initial patient assessment and our AEC (ambulatory emergency care) which includes 4 assessment rooms, a procedure room and a treatment bay/hub. A co-located 25-bed short stay area (AMU 2) provides additional capacity.

Staffing & Leadership

Acute Medicine is currently run by full-time Consultant Physicians with support from Consultant Physicians from other medical specialties. The team includes:

• two Acute Medicine STRs
• three Clinical Fellows
• one GPVTS trainee
• one IMT2 trainee
• one IMT3 trainee
• two ACCS trainees
• one FY2 trainee
• three FY1 trainees
• seven Advanced Nurse Practitioners (one in training)
• three Physician Associates
• Senior clinical involvement available 12 hours per day, 7 days per week.

Key Responsibilities

Within this role you will:

• Review medical patients on post-take ward rounds within ED and AMU supported by AMU and specialty consultants.
• Review patients during the admission process as well as in AEC.
• Develop procedural skills under senior staff supervision.
• Participate in regular teaching sessions.
• Engage in quality improvement work and gain publication or presentation experience at conferences.

Qualifications and Experience

We are looking for someone who has previously held a post within the NHS with Acute Medicine experience essential.
