Role Summary: We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Designer to join our building services consultancy team. The successful candidate will support the design of mechanical systems for both new-build and refurbishment projects, with a strong focus on sustainability, low carbon design, buildability, and effective delivery from concept through to completion. The role involves collaborating across disciplines, producing detailed mechanical design drawings (CAD & BIM), and ensuring compliance with industry standards and client requirements.
Responsibilities
- Produce mechanical engineering design for HVAC, plumbing, domestic hot water, drainage, and other mechanical building services systems across all project stages (RIBA Stages 1-5).
- Develop detailed drawings, specifications, calculations, and schedules using both 2D CAD and 3D BIM tools.
- Collaborate with electrical, architectural, structural, and sustainability teams to ensure integrated, buildable solutions.
- Ensure designs meet relevant standards, codes, and regulations (e.g. Building Regulations, CIBSE, etc.).
- Contribute to the low-carbon / net-zero design strategy: selecting efficient systems, evaluating renewable technologies, optimizing energy performance.
- Assist in coordinating with contractors and other stakeholders during design & construction phases to resolve technical issues and clarify design intent.
- Carry out review of drawings and designs produced by junior designers or external parties; provide mentoring / guidance as required.
- Conduct site visits when necessary to verify conditions, assembly constraints, or installation/interference issues.
- Maintain project documentation, version control, and quality assurance in line with company processes.
- Support cost estimation and feasibility studies related to mechanical systems, including life-cycle cost and energy modelling where required.
