Intermediate Electrical Design Engineer - Croydon

Building Services Consultancy

I’m currently supporting a respected building services consultancy based in Croydon, which is looking to appoint an Intermediate Electrical Design Engineer to join its expanding M&E team. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a supportive environment, collaborating closely with Senior Engineers and contributing to projects across the full design and delivery lifecycle.

The team works on a diverse range of projects including Residential, Education, Commercial, Leisure, and Decarbonisation schemes, offering broad sector exposure and strong professional development.

The Role

As an Intermediate Electrical Design Engineer, you will support the delivery of electrical building services design from concept through to completion. You’ll assist in producing reports, calculations, specifications, drawings, and tender documentation, while also attending client meetings and contributing to site‑based activities such as surveys and inspections.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in delivering electrical design across multiple project sectors.
  • Produce design calculations (manual and software‑based), technical reports, and specifications.
  • Support senior staff on project delivery, attending meetings and liaising directly with clients.
  • Carry out surveys, inspections, and condition reports.
  • Contribute to tender packages, tender analysis, and budget costings.
  • Provide support to the wider engineering team and mentor junior colleagues when required.
  • Follow internal procedures and industry standards throughout all design stages.
  • Perform additional duties as required by senior management.
Skills & Traits We’re Looking For

  • Confident communicator with strong verbal and written presentation skills.
  • Professional appearance and approach, especially in client‑facing settings.

  • Full UK driving licence is essential.
Experience Requirements
  • Producing detailed technical specifications and engineering documentation.
  • Knowledge of Building Regulations, CIBSE guidance, British Standards, CDM Regulations, and IEE Regulations.
  • Manual and software‑based design calculations.
  • Experience with drawing mark‑ups and basic AutoCAD use (Revit/BIM experience highly advantageous).
  • Involvement in tender documentation, analysis, and budget costings.
  • Conducting site surveys and producing condition reports.
  • Direct liaison with clients and support to senior engineers.
