Business Development Consultant – Vision Survey

About the Role

We are seeking a Business Development Consultant to join the commercial team. This newly created, development-focused role is designed to drive intelligent, insight‑led lead generation and consultative client engagement. The position offers a professional who wants to develop deep commercial capability, learn our services inside‑out, and act as a trusted advisor for prospects facing technical, compliance or engineering challenges.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as the single point of contact for all sales enquiries across telephone, email, video and in‑person channels.
  • Manage and maintain the CRM system with accurate and timely data.
  • Lead the creation of marketing content for digital and traditional channels.
  • Support the development of a structured sales process and assist with proposals and presentations.
  • Participate in bidding processes, including market engagement questionnaires, PQQs and tenders.
  • Manage company profiles and documentation across procurement portals.
  • Build strong relationships with client supply chain and procurement managers.
  • Travel nationwide to meet with clients and attend site meetings.
  • Shadow the Managing Director during client meetings and negotiations.
  • Collaborate with Heads of Services and finance to align sales strategies.
Essential Requirements
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to speak confidently with people at all levels.
  • Highly organised and methodical with excellent attention to detail.
  • Self‑starter able to work independently and take initiative.
  • Enthusiastic and genuinely eager to learn and develop.
  • Full UK manual driving licence and flexibility to travel nationwide.
  • Comfortable with client‑facing interactions and building relationships.
  • Team player who can also work autonomously.
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
Desirable
  • Basic understanding of marketing principles and sales processes.
  • Experience with CRM systems.
  • Interest in content creation and digital marketing.
  • Previous experience in customer‑facing roles.
