Job summary

A leading educational institution in Rugby is seeking a skilled trainer to join the Carpentry and Joinery team. Job description

This role is based in the UK and will be working on site in our UK based College.

In order to comply with our mandatory pre-employment checks, the successful candidate will be required to provide original identification documents in person to our UK based People Services Department.

Background to the Post

The Construction Department consists of Brickwork, Carpentry and Joinery, Electrical Installation, Mechanical Services, Multi-skills at the College’s Leamington Spa, Moreton Morrell and Rugby Centres. The person appointed will join the Carpentry and Joinery team. The area delivers training on Carpentry and Joinery courses Level 1-3 to Apprenticeships, full and part time.

Position in the Organisation

The post holder will be a member of the Construction Department and join the Carpentry and Joinery delivery team. The post is responsible to the Head of School.

Job Purpose

To carry out training and assessment for learners to include the following tasks:

  • Skills development within a workshop environment.
  • Support candidates to achieve their qualifications.
  • Provide feedback on progress
  • Guide and coach the candidates
  • Assessment of competence to national standards.
  • Maintenance of workshop equipment
Main Duties and Responsibilities
  • To develop the skills of students within the area of the workshop.
  • To administer and oversee skills training.
  • To apply assessment procedures and methods using pre-prepared learning material.
  • To prepare & set-up physical materials and equipment for workshop activities including end point assessment.
  • To produce a preventative maintenance schedule and carry out such maintenance on all tools and workshop equipment.
  • To order workshop equipment and materials in conjunction with the team.
  • To maintain the workshop to current H&S standards.
  • To assist in developing this area of work.
  • To ensure all students are aware of the Health & Safety Guidelines in the workshop
  • Safeguard and promote the welfare of children and vulnerable adults for whom you are responsible and whom you come into contact with.

Essential Attainments
  • Level 3 in Carpentry studies with a good working knowledge of Joinery
  • A good general education including GCSE English and Maths grades A to C or equivalent or willing to work towards
  • Relevant teaching qualification or willing to work towards
  • Assessor award A1 or equivalent or willing to work towards.
  • Demonstrable experience in the subject specialism being delivered.
  • Previous experience of delivering classes would be an advantage.
  • Administrative skills to complete associated paperwork.

  • Experience of working with awarding bodies
  • Relevant IQA qualification
  • Experience of working with outside agencies
