Job description
The Opportunity

Join one of the UK’s key nuclear power stations on a 12-month industrial placement designed for future business and operations leaders. You’ll work within the Performance Improvement team at Heysham 1 , supporting the station’s day-to-day functions and contributing to long-term strategic improvement across the site.

This placement blends analytical work, organisational learning, and business operations, giving you a real-world view of how nuclear stations are run and improved.

What You’ll Be Doing

You'll take on real responsibilities that give you exposure to live projects, data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement strategies, including :

  • Performance monitoring and data analysis
  • Supporting organisational learning and event investigations
  • Creating internal communications and improvement campaigns
  • Helping develop and test new training initiatives
  • Contributing to contractor readiness and safety planning
  • Analysing operational data to identify areas for optimisation
Where You’ll Be Based

You’ll be based at Heysham 1 Power Station , one of the UK's advanced gas-cooled reactor (AGR) stations. You’ll work on-site with experienced professionals across departments, getting real exposure to the operational side of nuclear energy.

Key Criteria (Must-Have)

To be considered, you must :

  • Be on track to achieve or already hold a minimum 2 : 2 degree in :
  • Business
  • Operations Management
  • Human Factors
  • Science or Engineering disciplines with a business interest
  • Have the right to work in the UK from the start date (no visa sponsorship available)
  • Be available for a full 12-month placement from Summer 2026
  • Be confident analysing data, solving problems, and communicating clearly
  • Have a proactive mindset with a willingness to learn from experienced professionals
Nice-to-Have Skills
  • An understanding of business process optimisation
  • Interest in the energy, utilities or engineering sectors
  • Confidence working across different stakeholder groups
  • Previous internship or university experience related to business improvement
