Job summary

A leading engineering company is looking for an Industrial Engineer for a 6-month contract based in Bristol. The engineer will focus on improving manufacturing efficiency and operational performance through industrial engineering principles. Responsibilities include conducting time studies, supporting layout planning, and identifying waste using Lean Manufacturing. Candidates should have a degree in Industrial Engineering and experience in a manufacturing environment. The position is 100% on-site and operates outside IR35.

Industrial Engineer

Location: Bristol (100% Onsite)
Contract: 6 months initial (extendable)
Rate: £28-£32 per hour
IR35: Outside IR35

Role Overview

We are recruiting an Industrial Engineer to support a customer site based in Bristol. This is an initial 6-month contract, with a strong likelihood of extension, operating Outside IR35 and requiring 100% onsite presence. The Industrial Engineer will play a key role in improving manufacturing efficiency, productivity, and operational performance through the application of industrial engineering principles. The role will work closely with manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and engineering teams to optimise processes and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyse and improve manufacturing and operational processes to drive efficiency, quality, and cost improvements
  • Conduct time studies, line balancing, capacity analysis, and workflow optimisation
  • Support layout planning, material flow, and workstation design
  • Identify and eliminate waste using Lean Manufacturing principles
  • Support the development and implementation of standard work and operating procedures
  • Collect, analyse, and interpret operational data to support decision‑making
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives (Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen)
  • Work cross‑functionally with Production, Quality, Engineering, and Supply Chain teams
  • Support production ramp‑up activities and operational readiness
Required Experience & Skills
  • Degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent relevant experience
  • Experience working in a manufacturing or industrial environment
  • Strong understanding of Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement tools
  • Experience with process mapping, time studies, and capacity analysis
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross‑functional teams
  • Comfortable working hands‑on in a shop‑floor environment
