Job description

For a quarter of a century, the Jellycat family have brought joy, wonder and playful fun to people of all ages, in every part of the world. Utterly original and in a class of their own, they are currently among the most loved and collected toys of their kind. How has this gentle tribe endeared themselves to so many? Perhaps it is their whimsical expressions. Or the deliciously soft fabrics. Or the beautiful way in which they sit in your hand. Whatever it is, there is something magical and unmistakeable about each one of them.

We are currently seeking an Indirect Tax Manager to join our Global Tax team. This newly created role will have responsibility for providing EMEA VAT advisory support across the Jellycat business, as well as identifying and leading VAT focused projects (such as process improvement, compliance and systems), and delivering on our global tax strategy.

This role will require collaboration with business teams across Jellycat, dealing with cross-border indirect tax matters and omni-channel transactions (e.g. wholesale, e-commerce). The nature of our business is primarily goods, and therefore, indirect tax knowledge and experience in this area is essential. Whilst this role is primarily advisory, review and oversight of the indirect tax compliance by the Accounting team may be required.

You’ll be;
  • Collaborating cross-functionally to embed indirect tax considerations into business planning and operational decisions, providing proactive indirect tax guidance on new and ongoing initiatives.
  • Reviewing new and existing operations and strategies from an indirect tax perspective, including supply chain design.
  • Monitoring registration requirements and legislative developments in EMEA, along with communication of impact to the wider business.
  • Managing interactions with tax authorities on indirect tax matters.
  • Promoting VAT awareness through knowledge sharing and training.
  • There may be opportunities to work on other tax issues and projects outside of indirect tax.
Governance and Strategy:
  • Inputing, designing and executing indirect tax controls and processes to support and build on our global tax strategy.
  • Designing and implementing indirect tax guidance on business activities (e.g. free gifts) to help support the business with respect to taxes.
  • Managing relationships with external advisers, suppliers and business customers.
Systems and Technology:
  • Supportting with designing and reviewing indirect tax requirements for systems (e.g. Vertex) and other transformation projects.
  • Working with IT teams to develop our indirect tax reporting capabilities with a focus around data quality.
Compliance:
  • Managing process and control environments to ensure the timely and accurate compliance with our EMEA indirect tax obligations.
  • Collaborating with Accounting teams to further develop in-house capabilities and manage external outsourcing relationships.
You’ll have;
  • 4+ years of relevant and demonstrable experience in UK and European indirect tax with Big 4 professional firms or multinational companies.
  • Qualified Chartered Tax Advisor or similar tax focused qualification.
  • The ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. Sense of urgency and ability to execute quickly and efficiently.
  • Strong ability to develop initial views to complex problems independently.
  • Strong time management and organisation skills with the ability to manage a number of projects at any one time.
  • Strong proficiency in English, other language skills a plus.
Desireable:
  • Proficiency in financial and tax software, with experience in Microsoft Dynamics 365 and / or Vertex preferred.
  • Experience or interest working with Tax Engines and Tax Data.
