Job Title: HSE Design Engineer - Principal Designer (Onshore Wind)

Location: Remote

Contract Type: 3-Month Contract / Freelance

Day Rate / Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced HSE Design Engineer with proven Principal Designer (CDM) experience to support our clients onshore wind development and construction projects.

The successful candidate will be responsible for embedding Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) considerations into the design process, ensuring compliance with UK CDM Regulations, and leading safety-by-design initiatives throughout the project lifecycle.

This is a 3-month initial remote contract with the potential for extension, offering the opportunity to contribute to significant renewable energy developments.

Responsibilities
  • Act as Principal Designer under CDM Regulations, ensuring HSE risks are identified, eliminated, or controlled during the design phase.
  • Lead and manage the integration of HSE requirements into project design and engineering solutions.
  • Coordinate design risk reviews, HAZID/HAZOP workshops, and develop risk registers.
  • Review design deliverables and contractor submissions, providing expert HSE input.
  • Maintain and update the Health and Safety File and communicate residual risks effectively.
  • Liaise with statutory bodies, regulators, and stakeholders on HSE compliance matters.
  • Support site-based teams during construction with design-related HSE queries.
What We're Looking For
  • Degree in Engineering, Health & Safety, or related discipline.
  • Recognised CDM Principal Designer competency.
  • Strong track record of HSE input on onshore wind, renewables, or infrastructure projects.
  • Detailed knowledge of CDM 2015 Regulations, risk management, and design safety.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • CEng status and NEBOSH Diploma (desirable).
