Overview

Our client has a new opportunity for an HSE Advisor- Grangemouth, Immediate start until the end of Dec 2026 - offered on a PAYE basis.

Responsibilities
  • Purpose of the role: The post holder will provide technical and legislative knowledge and expertise on short and long term HSE issues with a focus on Health and Safety Risk Management and Worker Health Protection. This will include; Providing technical and legislative knowledge on general HSE matters and specifically Occupational Hygiene (OH) to solve technical OH issues arising in any part of the business complex and allow businesses to pursue normal operations and meet regulatory requirements.
  • Subject Matter Expert for worker related health protection issues, accountable for advising the SHE Technical Authority and the site businesses directly on regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Developing the business COMAH and Occupational H&S strategy for ratification by the business HSE Manager.
  • Supporting the Refinery HSE team within the business to provide professional advice and guidance to Managers and supervisors.
  • Key Accountabilities: The post holder is expected to ensure that the business meets the minimums required by HSE legislation, regulation and guidance including the requirements of the business HSE Management System.
  • Developing and advocating HSE aspects of the business to ensure regulatory compliance in line with the HSE strategies and to support the business to meet its budgets and targets.
  • Advising the refinery leadership team, teams or individuals to increase their understanding on COMAH and Occupational H&S matters to ensure the business performance meets the regulatory and legislative requirements.
  • As subject matter expert, provide detailed technical Occupational Hygiene knowledge and appropriate improvement recommendations to managers, supervisors and teams including contractors. Develop strategies to meet business and regulatory requirements, and enable the integration of occupational hygiene management into IMSL Management System and short and long term Business plans.
  • Providing detailed technical support and HSE knowledge to make appropriate recommendations to the business to influence compliance with legislation, codes and standards.
  • Reviewing and authorizing, where appropriate, any deviations for H&S Management Procedures and Standards.
  • Preparing, reviewing and authorizing any amendments required and/or requested for H&S Management Procedures and Standards.
  • Collating, analyzing and providing reports as required for HSE data.
  • Preparing improvement plans and reports to improve HSE performance across the business.
  • Supporting and contributing to the development of the HS&E strategy, plan and direction.
  • Supporting the HSE Manager in maintaining connections with the wider business, regulator, governmental and trade associations to ensure the business is proportionate in its response to legislative requirements.
  • Evaluating the need for any third party COMAH or Occupational H&S support services to supplement internal resources, as the demands require.
  • Involvement in HSE representation at TAR and other special works
  • Representing the business with external organisations and associations as required.
Education/Experience
  • Note: Qualifications:
  • Degree qualified, or equivalent, in a relevant health, safety and/or environmental discipline
  • Professional HS&E qualifications and corporate memberships of appropriate institutions such as BOHS, IOSH or IEMA.
  • Working towards or qualified to Certificate Level or higher (British Occupational Hygiene Society or equivalent).
  • Experience in similar role in oil and gas, Refining/petrochemical, chemical or other similar hazardous industry
