Housing Allocations Officer

  • Hourly Rate: £14.73 - £15.72
  • Location: Office Based – Onsite
  • Job Type: Full-time, Temporary (12 weeks)

Join the Housing Options / Housing Allocations team as a Housing Allocations Officer. This role is crucial for managing and maintaining the council’s housing needs register, assisting customers with housing needs, and ensuring the efficient allocation of vacant properties in line with our policies.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Manage and maintain the council’s housing needs register.
  • Assist customers with housing needs by providing advice, assistance, and signposting to other colleagues or organisations for further support.
  • Ensure that the council's and local registered providers' vacant properties are let in accordance with our published housing allocations policy and within agreed timescales.
  • Work under own initiative to find solutions to problems regularly.
  • Remain calm and professional in emotionally demanding situations, dealing effectively with people who may display challenging behaviour.
  • Handle customer inquiries in a professional manner, providing timely and accurate responses.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience working in Housing is desirable but not essential.
  • Good general standard of education including Maths and English.
  • High level of IT literacy, confident in the use of Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Experience in a customer-facing role.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to communicate effectively with a diverse range of audiences.
  • Good organisational skills with the ability to work to deadlines and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
