Household Support Fund Assessor

  • Hourly rate: £17.47 paye / £30 ltd umbrella
  • Location: Reading, Hybrid (office-based one day per week)
  • Job Type: Temporary (Immediate start, contract until end March 2026)

Join our Reading based local authority in a pivotal role as a Household Support Fund Assessor. This position offers an immediate start and involves administering the Household Support Fund Top-up scheme. You will play a crucial role in helping residents access vital financial support by assessing applications, providing income and budgeting advice, and signposting to relevant support services.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Assess grant applications quickly and accurately to deliver immediate financial assistance while driving lasting positive change.
  • Provide tailored advice on benefits, budgeting, and income maximisation.
  • Signpost residents to debt advice and other essential support services.
  • Reduce arrears and recovery actions through early engagement and sustainable repayment plans.
  • Manage a caseload independently, ensuring efficient and effective service delivery.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of benefits, housing, or debt advice.
  • Proven experience in customer-facing roles (phone, email, or face‑to‑face).
  • Excellent communication and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to manage a caseload independently and work under pressure.
  • Experience in handling sensitive information with discretion and in accordance with data protection regulations.
