Job description
Overview

Are you a Dietitian with genuine interest in helping support the prevention and treatment of malnutrition through service improvement? This post is the Highly Specialist Lead Dietitian for Stroke and Health Care of the Older Person at NUH. You will play a crucial role in leading, developing and delivering high-quality nutritional care to patients within the Hyper-Acute, Acute and Stroke Rehabilitation pathways. You will also contribute to the dietetic management of the Health Care of the Older person service.

The post holder contributes to the work of the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics and wider Nutrition and Hydration strategy work at NUH. You will work as a Highly Specialised Dietitian providing clinical leadership for Stroke, Health Care of the Older Person & General Medicine. You will work closely with other dietitians & AHPs to continue to collaboratively provide an effective dietetic service across NUH. You will share a caseload with new registrants & specialist dietitians, providing supervision & mentorship, whilst also working with the wider Medicine team to continue to promote & develop the role of a dietitian in their specialist area.

Responsibilities
  • The post holder will need to work with the team to develop strategies in support of this growing area. They will be involved in audit, developing referral criteria, training, & supporting the implementation of nutritional service developments.
  • They will also support other members of the general medical team including rotational dietitians & support staff, alongside the Team Leaders.
  • The post holder will support internal steering groups, working groups & wider NUH nutritional governance groups. They will participate in audit, service improvement/evaluation & student training for Dietitians.
  • The post holder is also involved in the training & development of the NUH Nutrition Excellence Leads (link nurse/HCA role) including planning & organising study days & contributing to nutrition training initiatives across the trust.
  • With over 19,000 staff, NUH is a large employer; the post involves working within inpatient settings across Health Care of the Older Person and Stroke as a source of expertise on Dietetics and Nutrition for staff and patients, including the provision of education and training, and working as a member of a departmental team with the support of the appropriate team leader.
Qualifications and Environment

We are a diverse pathway of AHPs and support staff, employing over 600 staff, who work together to deliver high quality care. Our HCPC registered AHP professionals comprise of Physiotherapists, Dietitians, Occupational Therapists, Orthotists, Prosthetists and Speech and Language Therapists. We have a Chief AHP who leads us on our strategic direction, and many of the pathway leadership team have AHP backgrounds to support our staff. There are also Practice Development Therapists to support career development for all.
