Job summary

A leading transport operator in Cardiff is seeking an experienced HGV Technician to strengthen their engineering team. This role offers the opportunity for hands-on technical work in a fast-paced workshop environment. Responsibilities include preventative maintenance, routine servicing, and diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults. Ideal candidates have solid experience in HGV or PSV and an NVQ Level 3. A strong focus on safety and reliability is essential, as well as a willingness to assist with roadside breakdowns.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance and safety inspections.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic faults.
  • Use diagnostic equipment to resolve vehicle issues efficiently.
  • Attend to vehicle defects both in the depot and roadside.

ob Title: HGV Technician

Location: Taffs Well - Cardiff

Salary: £18.82 per hour + Enhanced Overtime + £2000 sign on bonus

Hours: 40hrs per week

Role of the HGV Technician

Working with a leading transport operator in the Cardiff area who are looking to strengthen their engineering team with an experienced Shift Mechanic / Fitter. If you’re a skilled Engineer with a background in PSV, HGV, this is an excellent opportunity to secure long-term stability, progression, and excellent earning potential.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands‑on technical work, thrives in a fast‑paced workshop environment, and wants to play a key part in keeping a busy fleet safely on the road.

What you’ll do as the HGV Technician
  • Preventative maintenance, routine servicing and safety inspections
  • Mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic fault finding
  • Using diagnostic equipment to identify and resolve issues efficiently
  • Attending vehicle defects in the depot and roadside when required
  • Supporting apprentices and contributing to a positive workshop culture
  • Ensuring all work meets strict safety and compliance standards
What you’ll need as the HGV Technician
  • Solid engineering background: HGV or PSV
  • NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) preferred – strong hands‑on experience also welcome
  • Confident diagnosing and repairing a range of mechanical and electrical faults
  • Safety‑focused, reliable and able to work independently
  • Flexible and willing to support roadside breakdowns if required
