About Us:
- The award-winning Isle of Wight Steam Railway is able to offer a unique opportunity to a suitably qualified and experienced individual to lead its Heritage and Learning Department. As a registered Educational Charity and an Arts Council England Accredited Museum, the Steam Railway is one of the top tourist attractions on the Isle of Wight and welcomes around 120,000 visitors per annum.
About the Role:
- To manage the day to day running of the Heritage & Learning Department incorporating the museum and Train Story, enhancing our educational activities, providing line management, leadership and training for our team of dedicated volunteers. You will be working with the wider railway team, promoting and undertaking audience development work, maintaining the Railway’s Accredited Museum status, obtaining grant funding, developing historical displays and enhancing the interpretation of the Railway as a whole. About You:
- You have a sound knowledge of the museum sector and experience of working in a museum or similar heritage attraction at a senior level.
- You have knowledge of curatorial standards and experience of working with historic artefacts
- Understanding of the museum accreditation scheme
- Experience of arranging and presenting educational activities
- Experience of managing and motivating volunteers in a museum environment, as well as further enhancing our educational provision.
- Sound IT experience (Modes software would be advantageous)
- Experience of managing a budget, and knowledge and experience in obtaining grant funding.
