Job summary

A leading recruitment agency is seeking a Helicopter Mechanical Fitter for a 3-month contract in Oxford. The successful candidate will be responsible for aircraft installations, modifications, and repairs to the highest safety standards. This role requires experience in sheet metal repairs and knowledge of helicopter systems, with potential for contract extension. Working hours are Monday to Friday, 08:00 - 17:00.

Qualifications

Helicopter Mechanical Fitter vacancy in Oxford (037DM)

The Mechanical Fitter will be responsible for supporting the Installation Supervisor or Certifying Engineer in completing aircraft installation, modification, and repair tasks to the highest safety and quality standards. This role involves the manufacturing, assembly, and fitting of mechanical and electrical components both on and off aircraft, contributing to the safe and efficient operation of all aircraft systems.

Responsibilities
  • Carry out installation and modification work as directed by the Installation Supervisor or Certifying Engineer.
  • Manufacture and install electrical looms and avionics systems in accordance with approved design data.
  • Perform off-aircraft workshop tasks as required.
  • Support daily hangar operations, including aircraft movements and general housekeeping.
  • Manufacture parts and components from sheet materials in line with design specifications.
  • Assemble parts supplied by subcontractors and ensure they meet quality standards.
  • Interpret detailed engineering drawings to manufacture brackets, doublers, and assemblies from sheet metal in both production and prototype settings.
  • Collaborate closely with the design office to ensure design intent and compliance are maintained.
  • Conduct removal and refitting of panels, cowlings, and associated components on helicopters and equipment.
  • Install structural components (e.g., brackets, doubler plates) to support customer-specific aircraft modifications.
  • Perform structural repairs to aircraft in accordance with approved procedures.
  • Maintain flexibility to work shifts and adapt to changing priorities within the department.
  • Ensure all tasks are performed to high safety and quality standards in compliance with aviation regulations.
Experience, Knowledge & Abilities
  • Strong ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Skilled in interpreting complex mechanical drawings and technical data.
  • Experience in manufacturing brackets, fittings, and assemblies from sheet metal.
  • Proven experience performing on-aircraft and off-aircraft sheet metal repairs.
  • Knowledge and practical experience of helicopter systems, preferably Airbus Helicopters.
  • Competent in a range of riveting techniques for structural and component assembly.
  • Capable of working in confined spaces and maintaining focus under pressure.
  • Methodical and well-organized, with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Flexible and proactive attitude with genuine enthusiasm for the role.
  • Reliable and calm under demanding conditions.
  • Willingness and ability to work shift patterns as required.
Education, Qualifications & Training
  • Completed a formal aviation apprenticeship or equivalent qualification in a related mechanical discipline.
  • Experience working with Airbus Helicopters (advantageous).
  • Valid driving license required.
Contract
  • 3-month contract (likely to continue to be extended).
Work pattern

Mon - Fri / 08:00 - 17:00 / 40 hrs per week.
