The HSE Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining robust Health, Safety, Environmental, and Energy management systems to ensure compliance with legal requirements, company standards, and industry best practices. This role drives continuous improvement in workplace safety, environmental sustainability, and energy efficiency, fostering a culture of responsibility and excellence across the organization.

You will act as the dedicated HSE expert within a business, provisioning advice and guidance in all aspects required from this role.

Key Responsibilities
Health & Safety
  • Develop and maintain the company’s Health & Safety Management System in line with ISO 45001 and legal requirements.
  • Conduct risk assessments, audits, and inspections to identify hazards and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Manage COSHH compliance, including chemical risk assessments, safe storage, and employee training.
  • Ensure compliance with Explosive Atmospheres Regulations (ATEX/DSEAR), including risk assessments and control measures.
  • Lead incident investigations and root cause analysis, ensuring lessons learned are communicated and applied.
  • Deliver training and awareness programs to promote a strong safety culture.
  • Lead site emergency preparedness procedures, including ensuring adequate fire marshals and first aiders.
Environmental
  • Manage environmental compliance in line with ISO 14001 and relevant legislation.
  • Monitor and report on environmental performance, including waste management, emissions, and resource usage.
  • Drive initiatives to reduce environmental impact and support sustainability goals.
Energy
  • Implement and maintain an Energy Management System aligned with ISO 50001.
Governance & Leadership
  • Set annual HSE objectives aligned with corporate goals and monitor progress.
  • Deliver Management Reviews for ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and ISO 50001 systems, ensuring continual improvement.
  • Act as the subject matter expert for HSE matters, advising leadership and operational teams.
  • Prepare and present reports on HSE performance, KPIs, and improvement plans.
Education
  • Certification in Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Professional certifications (e.g., NEBOSH General Certificate or similar).
  • Membership to a professional body such as IOSH, IEMA etc.
  • ISO Internal Auditor for 14001/45001/50001).
  • Minimum 5 years experience in HSE management within manufacturing or industrial environments.
  • Strong knowledge of UK/EU legislation and international standards.
  • Experience in COSHH management and ATEX/DSEAR compliance.
