Role Overview

Your future career could be with the Healthy Child Programme Assistant team, working as part of a Healthy Child Programme across Luton and Bedfordshire. This role is part of the 0‑19 team supporting the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme.

The Healthy Child Programme Assistant is a self‑motivating, confident professional with excellent communication and personal skills who provides support and guidance to children and families throughout the Bedfordshire area, and occasionally on school visits.

Responsibilities
  • Perform delegated clinical tasks independently, such as weighing and measuring babies in clinic and at home, undertaking growth measurements in schools for the National Childhood Measurement Programme, and completing newborn bloodspot testing.
  • Provide care for children and families as directed by the Specialist Community Public Health Nurses or other team members and feedback findings to the accountable caseload holder.
  • Provide individualised and group support to families to encourage and support breastfeeding and appropriate weaning when required.
  • Carry clinical and other equipment short distances using light to moderate effort, e.g., infant/child weighing scales when necessary.
  • Offer support to individuals to enable them to access other services and organisations.
  • Work with clients whose first language may not be English using interpreting services when appropriate.
  • Organise health promotion displays and materials for the public health nursing team.
  • Contribute to effective communications and working relationships within the team and partner agencies, including children’s centres.
  • Plan and organise own clinical, non‑clinical responsibilities to ensure effective use of time.
  • Report effectively to the team on child and family progress against the care plan and maintain up‑to‑date written and electronic records in accordance with Professional Standards.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with all relevant professional standards and policies.
Qualifications & Skills

A candidate must be self‑motivated, confident, possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and have the ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary setting.

Working Conditions
  • Position available with Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust.
  • May work on site at Luton and Bedfordshire locations. Mobility may be required to attend parental or local meetings and school visits.
  • Will be subject to pre‑employment checks, including a DBS check and, where necessary, a driving licence validation.
