Healthcare Support Worker – Templer Ward

The closing date is 09 December 2025

Templer Ward is a 30 bedded in patient ward within Newton Abbot Community Hospital. 20 beds provide care to specialist stroke and neuro rehabilitation patients following treatment in an acute hospital setting. The other 10 beds are for patients requiring general medical care and rehabilitation.

Joining our team on a permanent full‑time contract, you will be working within a proactive multidisciplinary team to encourage patients to reach the maximum rehabilitation potential to enable safe discharge from hospital.

Main duties of the job
  • We are looking for a caring and compassionate person who is able to work within a multi‑disciplinary team to deliver a high standard of individualised nursing care to our patients.
  • You will need excellent communication skills, and be able to work independently, prioritising your workload to ensure the best outcomes for patients.
  • You will ensure that your own actions support the care, protection and well‑being of individuals, and ensure their privacy and dignity at all times.
  • You will need to be flexible as this is a rotational post which includes days, nights and weekend working.

Job responsibilities
  • Communication and Working Relationships – The post holder will be expected to work as a member of the team.

  • Previous experience in a care environment or able to demonstrate a caring nature/life experience

  • Working knowledge of complex care needs of some individuals/families including Safeguarding Children & Adults, Domestic Abuse and Mental Health
