Job Summary

Older People’s Medicine and Neuroscience Healthcare Support Worker Recruitment Event – 30 January 2026

Older People’s Medicine delivers comprehensive, person‑centred care for older adults, particularly frailty, multimorbidity, and acute long‑term conditions. Dedicated wards assess and manage frail patients holistically and rehabilitate. Key pathways: hip fractures, dementia care, end‑of‑life care.

Neurosciences provide rapid response care for serious neurological conditions – 24/7 assessment and treatment for stroke, seizures, severe headaches, spinal cord injuries, CNS infections, and acute deterioration. Key feature: Acute Stroke Unit for suspected stroke patients from A&E.

Recruitment Day – 30 January 2026

14:00 – 14:30 Introduction of the HCSW role

14:30 – 17:00 Basic Numeracy and Literacy Assessment & Interview.

Role and Responsibilities

As a HCSW you will provide individualized personal care within a multidisciplinary team, assisting with:

  • Personal care, nutrition, wound care, mobility, and infection control
  • Monitoring and recording vital signs
  • Supporting toileting, hygiene and patient dressing
  • Maintaining accurate documentation

Through the nationally recognised Care Certificate qualification, you will learn to deliver effective patient care under RN supervision, accurately document care, recognise changes in patient condition, and escalating concerns appropriately while maintaining confidentiality.

Support and Development

Ongoing training provides a 52‑week structured development pathway. You will initially complete a 2‑week induction (1 week classroom, 1 week ward shadowing). Additional bank shifts across specialties are available upon completion.
