Older People’s Medicine & Neuroscience Healthcare Support Worker Recruitment Event 30th January 2026

Older People’s Medicine delivers comprehensive, person‑centred care for older adults, particularly those living with frailty, complex multimorbidity, and acute long‑term conditions. There are four dedicated wards specifically resourced to assess and manage patients identified as frail, providing holistic assessment, proactive management of medical and functional needs, and tailored rehabilitation. Key care pathways include management of hip fractures, dementia care, and end‑of‑life care.

Neurosciences provide specialised, rapid‑response care for patients with serious neurological conditions. This includes 24/7 assessment and treatment for emergencies such as stroke, seizures, severe headaches, spinal cord injuries, central nervous system infections and acute neurological deterioration. A key feature of the service is the Acute Stroke Unit, which accepts suspected stroke patients from A&E.

Recruitment Day Schedule
  • 14:00 – 14:30 Introduction of the HCSW role
  • 14:30 – 17:00 Basic Numeracy and Literacy Assessment & Interview

Role Overview

As an HCSW you will provide and deliver a high standard of individualised personal care to each patient, working as part of a collaborative multidisciplinary team. Your duties include assisting with personal care, nutrition, wound care, mobility, infection control, monitoring and recording vital signs, supporting patients with toileting and hygiene needs, and maintaining accurate documentation.

Qualifications & Experience
  • Significant nursing or healthcare assistant experience
  • Minimum 36 hours per week commitment
  • Ability to work some weekends, nights and public holidays

  • Willingness to develop through the Care Certificate Programme
Training & Development
  • Two‑week induction (1 week classroom, 1 week ward shadowing)
  • Structured 52‑week development pathway
  • Opportunity to progress to the Trainee Nursing Associate (TNA) programme – a two‑year course leading to Nursing Associate registration and pathways to registered nursing
  • Additional bank shifts in alternative areas available after completing the Care Certificate

Working Hours & Shift Pattern
