Job summary

Job description
Healthcare Support Worker

  • Post holder works as part of the Healthcare team, providing care and support to patients within HMP Ranby in accordance with security guidelines.
  • Works closely with other teams within the prison and with external agencies to meet the holistic needs of the patients.
  • Can work without direct supervision, undertaking delegated tasks and reporting back to the Registered Nurses.
  • Actively participates in the ongoing development of positive working relationships with prison staff.
Main duties of the job

Post holder will:

  • Perform clinical observations, report abnormalities, and document on System One accurately.
  • Follow appropriate infection prevention and control guidelines to protect themselves, colleagues, and patients.
  • Assist in the provision of clinics including phlebotomy, vaccinations, ECGs, physical investigation clinics and wound care clinics in line with their skills and proficiencies.
  • Participate in resident screenings with healthcare colleagues.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and legible records of resident care, including data input and statistical information as required.
  • Contribute to the ordering, distribution, stock control and maintenance of healthcare equipment and resources.
  • Participate in all aspects of healthcare admin duties as required including booking appointments, scanning patient information, and answering queries.

Person Specification
Essential
  • GCSE Maths & English or equivalent Fundamental Skills Level 2 in Maths & English, or willingness to undertake.
  • Care certificate or willingness to work towards.
  • Completion of a clinical skills competency-based workbook or equivalent relevant experience to vocational qualification level 3, or willingness to undertake.
  • Knowledge of clinical patient observations.
  • Willingness to undertake competencies supported by clinical skills training and education to gain theoretical underpinning knowledge in a range of clinical interventions and use of test equipment (e.g., blood glucose monitors, venepuncture, etc.).
  • Care experience working in a health or social care setting.
  • Experience of working in offender health.
  • Experience using System One.
  • Phlebotomy training.
Desirable
  • Care certificate.
  • Experience in a healthcare setting.
