Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a number of Band 3 Nursing Assistants to join the Ward 25 team.

Under the supervision of a registered nurse, the applicant will assist the Ward/Department team in providing the highest possible standard of care for patients and their families/carers.

The post holder will undertake a range of tasks and duties as delegated by a registered nurse.

The role will involve participating in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care, and in all aspects of patient care—particularly pressure ulcer care, personal hygiene, toileting and feeding. The post holder will report progress and concerns to the Registered Nurse (RN).

  • Work collaboratively and co‑operatively with others to meet the needs of patients and their families.
  • Undertake a range of skilled tasks and duties with the support of the Registered Nurse.
  • Proactively lead in delivering all aspects of basic patient care from admission to discharge.
  • Support and develop more junior staff and contribute to ward development.
  • Promote effective communication within the multi‑disciplinary team and take measures to overcome communication difficulties.
  • Contribute to the management of aggressive and abusive behaviour.
  • Perform general bed making, clean beds in readiness for new admissions and operation beds.
  • Prepare used linen bags for collection by Porters and ensure an adequate supply of linen bags/skips.
  • Assist in maintaining a clear and safe environment in all areas.
  • Safely dispose of clinical waste and sharps in accordance with Trust policy.
  • Be familiar with Trust policies and procedures for reporting clinical incidents.
  • Attend to the needs of visitors and patients, particularly those who may be distressed or bereaved.
  • Care for patients’ property, including valuables, in accordance with Trust policy.
  • Obtain demographic details and social history from patients/visitors to assist in the admission process.
  • Provide support and assistance to new and junior members of staff.
