Job description

As a Health & Safety Advisor in Leeds, you will drive the company's HSE agenda by ensuring best practice is maintained across all construction projects and within the wider business. This is an excellent H&S advisor job for someone passionate about safety compliance and keen to shape a positive safety culture across multiple sites. You'll play a key role in promoting a positive safety culture, supporting site teams and ensuring legislative compliance in line with CDM 2015 and other relevant health and safety regulations.

Responsibilities
  • Attend HSE meetings to review and enhance existing health and safety systems, policies and processes.
  • Update and develop company health and safety policies and documentation to ensure compliance with current UK legislation.
  • Produce Construction Health & Safety Plans and supporting documentation, maintaining all associated records, registers and data.
  • Lead and support accident, incident and near‑miss investigations, ensuring lessons learned are shared across the business.
  • Carry out site HSE audits and inspections across construction sites in Wakefield, Leeds and surrounding Yorkshire areas.
  • Provide comprehensive accident/incident investigation reports and implement corrective actions.
  • Support the Pre‑Construction team with HSE matters, including risk assessments and method statements.
  • Promote continuous improvement in all aspects of health, safety and environmental management.
  • Ensure compliance with CDM regulations, ISO 45001 standards and occupational health and safety best practice.
Qualifications
  • Solid experience working within a construction main contractor, sub‑contractor or civil contractor environment.
  • Proven experience as a Health, Safety & Environment Advisor, Safety Compliance Consultant or Senior Health & Safety Consultant within the construction industry.
  • Strong technical knowledge of current H&S legislation, including CDM 2015, and a commitment to staying updated with industry changes.
  • NEBOSH certification (e.g. NEBOSH General Certificate or NEBOSH Construction Certificate) and a relevant CSCS card.
  • Experience conducting site inspections and investigating accidents/incidents in line with HSE reporting requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to deliver clear safety messages to site teams and senior management.
  • Strong problem‑solving ability and confident use of Microsoft Office and HSE management software.
  • A self‑motivated, flexible approach and the ability to work independently under pressure with high attention to detail.
  • A positive, engaging attitude with the ability to build lasting relationships across all levels of the business.
  • Full UK driving licence, essential for visiting sites across Yorkshire and the North Midlands.
