Overview

Job Title: Health and Social Care Lecturer (A Level)

Location: London Borough of Havering

Salary: Up to 30 an hour PAYE

Contract Type: Full-Time/Part-Time - Temporary

Reporting to: Head of Department / Curriculum Leader

Job Purpose: To plan, deliver, and assess high-quality teaching and learning in Health and Social Care at A Level (or equivalent Level 3 qualifications such as BTEC/NVQ), ensuring students achieve their full potential and are prepared for further education or employment in the sector.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning

  • Deliver engaging and effective lessons in Health and Social Care at A Level.
  • Use a variety of teaching methods and resources to meet the needs of all learners.
  • Develop schemes of work, lesson plans, and assessments in line with curriculum standards.
  • Integrate industry-relevant knowledge and up-to-date practices into teaching.

Assessment and Monitoring

  • Design and mark assessments in accordance with awarding body requirements.
  • Monitor student progress and provide constructive feedback to support development.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress, and outcomes.
  • Prepare students for external examinations and assessments.

Student Support

  • Provide academic and pastoral support to students.
  • Support students in developing independent learning skills and career aspirations.
  • Participate in parent/carer evenings, open days, and enrichment activities.

Professional Development and Compliance

  • Stay current with subject developments and maintain up-to-date knowledge of the health and social care sector.
  • Participate in staff training, curriculum development, and quality assurance activities.
  • Comply with safeguarding, equality, and diversity policies, and promote inclusive learning.
Essential Requirements
  • A degree in Health and Social Care or a related subject.
  • Recognised teaching qualification.
  • Experience teaching A Level.
  • Knowledge of current practices and legislation in the health and social care sector.
  • Strong communication, organisational, and classroom management skills.
  • Commitment to student success and inclusive teaching.
Desirable Requirements
  • Experience in pastoral care or academic mentoring.
  • Industry experience in the health and social care field.
  • Familiarity with online learning platforms and digital tools for education.
  • Experience in curriculum development or quality assurance.
