Health & Safety Officer – Leicester

Location: Leicester
Salary: £40,000 - £45,000
Job Type: Permanent
Hours of Work: Monday - Thursday 08:30 - 17:00; Friday 08:30 - 15:00
Reports To: SHEQ Manager

Engineering @ 365 is recruiting on behalf of our client, a leading advanced materials manufacturer based in Leicester, with operations also in Frankley. We are seeking a proactive Health & Safety Officer to support the SHEQ function and lead on health and safety matters across both sites. This is a multi-site role where you will act as the company\'s Competent Person, working with internal and external stakeholders to ensure compliance, maintain a strong safety culture, and support continuous improvement across the business.

Responsibilities
  • Risk Assessments
    • Carry out risk assessments to identify hazards and put control measures in place.
    • Review and update risk assessments as required.
  • Training & Awareness
    • Deliver health and safety training, including inductions for new starters and contractors.
    • Run toolbox talks and safety briefings.
  • Contractor Management
    • Ensure contractors meet company and HSE standards.
    • Review RAMS, issue permits to work, and close out completion checks.
  • COSHH Management
    • Identify hazardous substances and maintain COSHH assessments.
    • Ensure MSDS are compliant and up to date.
  • Incident & Accident Management
    • Record and investigate near misses, incidents, and accidents.
    • Produce actions to prevent reoccurrence and manage RIDDOR reporting.
    • Ensure emergency equipment is available, stocked, and inspected.
  • Compliance Reporting
    • Maintain accurate health and safety records and documentation.
    • Provide KPI reporting to management.
    • Report non-compliances related to ISO standards and legislation.
  • Health Surveillance & Monitoring
    • Coordinate health surveillance and exposure monitoring with third parties.
    • Review reports and implement corrective actions where needed.
  • PPE Management
    • Manage PPE distribution, checks, inspections, and training.
    • Ensure PPE is used correctly and defects are reported.
  • SOPs & Continuous Improvement
    • Support creation and review of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
    • Work with the team to improve safety processes and reduce risk.
  • Communication & Culture
    • Communicate changes to procedures and safety updates.
    • Promote a positive safety culture across employees, visitors, and contractors.
  • Administration
    • Maintain compliance registers including COSHH, MSDS, PPE records, and more.
Requirements

Essential:

  • NEBOSH qualification (or equivalent).
  • Minimum of 3 years\' experience in a manufacturing H&S role.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to multi-task.
  • Confident working across multiple sites.

Desirable:

  • Experience in a chemical manufacturing environment.
  • Chemical knowledge and experience managing hazardous substances.
  • Strong problem-solving and stakeholder management skills.
