Job summary

A leading principal contractor in Exeter is seeking a Health and Safety Manager to oversee and enhance health and safety practices on major construction projects. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in a similar role, preferably within the construction or civil engineering sectors, and hold NEBOSH qualifications. Key responsibilities include advising contractors, conducting incident investigations, and fostering a positive health and safety culture. This role offers a competitive salary of around £65,000 plus car allowance or travel.

Health and Safety Manager – Exeter

Salary: Circa £65,000 + Car Allowance or Car + Travel

Irwin and Colton have been engaged to recruit a Health and Safety Manager for a leading principal contractor. This organisation delivers some of the largest and most complex construction projects in the UK, and this role will take a key position on a major development.

It's an excellent opportunity for an experienced health and safety professional who can provide confident leadership on site, work effectively as part of the senior team, and champion best practice across the project.

Travel to the site is fully paid, and accommodation is provided if required.

Responsibilities
  • Leading, advising and coaching contractors to ensure they can achieve the efficient and effective delivery of the health and safety strategy
  • Conducting incident investigations to identify the root cause and make recommendations to prevent recurrence
  • Auditing and reporting on health and safety performance
  • Working with the site team, constantly assessing opportunities for health and safety improvements and sharing best practice across the organisation
Qualifications
  • Proven experience in a similar role, ideally within construction or civil engineering or a related industry
  • Hold NEBOSH General or Construction (NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent desirable)
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work well with a wide range of people
  • Drive and enthusiasm with the ability to promote a positive Health and Safety culture
