Overview

We are a nationwide construction and fit out Principal Contractor seeking a dedicated Safety Advisor. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining health and safety programmes to ensure a safe working environment. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about workplace safety and compliance, with a focus on reducing risks and promoting a safety‑first culture across the organisation.

Duties
  • Provide health and safety advice to site management, supervisors, and operatives.
  • Support compliance with the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and CDM Regulations 2015.
  • Assist with the preparation, review, and monitoring of Construction Phase Plans.
  • Review and approve RAMS, permits to work, and safe systems of work.
  • Ensure subcontractors comply with company and project H&S requirements.
  • Carry out regular site inspections, audits, and behavioural safety observations.
  • Identify unsafe acts and conditions, advising on corrective actions.
  • Monitor close‑out of actions and support continuous improvement.
  • Support internal audits and external inspections (HSE, clients, and certification bodies).
  • Support the investigation of accidents, incidents, and near misses.
  • Assist with root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Ensure incidents are reported in line with company procedures and RIDDOR requirements.
  • Deliver site inductions, toolbox talks, and safety briefings.
  • Support managers and supervisors in fulfilling their health and safety responsibilities.
  • Promote workforce engagement through safety campaigns and behavioural initiatives.
  • Collect and report health and safety performance data (accidents, near misses, inspections).
  • Assist with monitoring KPIs and project safety targets.
  • Contribute to project safety meetings and client reporting.
  • Support occupational health initiatives, including: dust and noise control, HAVS, manual handling and mental health and wellbeing.
  • Assist in monitoring health surveillance requirement.
Person Specification
  • Proven experience in a health and safety role within a similar environment.
  • NEBOSH General Certificate (or Construction Certificate).
  • Strong knowledge of CDM Regulations 2015.
  • Ability to travel and be present on live construction sites.
  • Confident communicator with the ability to influence site teams.
  • Ability to challenge unsafe behaviours appropriately.
