What part will you play?

As Head of Distribution Strategy & Sales Governance, you will make a meaningful difference within Markel’s global community. The role is pivotal in overseeing the strategic direction, operational effectiveness, and regulatory compliance of broker distribution channels across the Open Market, Digital, and Schemes.

The opportunity

This hybrid role may be based from Leeds, Manchester or Birmingham, with travel to our Leeds & London offices. You will report to the Divisional Director for Broker, partnering with underwriting and distribution teams to deliver proposition and marketing excellence. The position is a key figurehead for Markel’s broker schemes and a member of the senior leadership team.

What you’ll be doing
  • Strategy Development: Design and implement the broker distribution strategy aligned with Markel’s commercial objectives and growth targets.
  • Sales Governance: Build governance frameworks to ensure sales activities meet regulatory, legal and company standards.
  • Performance Management: Work with the Head of Strategic Sales to set and monitor KPIs, driving continuous improvement.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Lead sales compliance matters, adapting to regulatory changes.
  • Broker Relationship Management: Strengthen relationships with key broker partners, focusing on remuneration and ISA agreements.
  • Accountability for broker proposition development and ongoing improvement.
  • Risk Management: Identify and mitigate risks in the broker sales channel, ensuring internal controls.
  • Training & Development: Oversee programmes to equip distribution teams in compliance, product knowledge and sales effectiveness.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with Legal, Compliance, Underwriting, Marketing and Product teams.
  • Reporting & Insights: Provide regular updates to senior management on performance, compliance and emerging risks.
