Role Overview
The Head of Commercial will define and execute the commercial and trading strategy for The PharmPet Co's product categories, focusing on delivering sales growth, margin performance, category development, and brand leadership in the online pet healthcare space.
Responsibilities
- Develop and own the trading strategy across prescription and non‑prescription pet healthcare categories, expanding pet prescriptions to capture market share.
- Drive revenue and margin targets, scaling The PharmPet Co into a leading pet healthcare brand in the UK.
- Build a compelling, well‑researched product range tailored to UK pet owners.
- Ensure regulatory compliance, availability and customer education for pet prescriptions.
- Use data and customer insights to expand categories and refine merchandising strategies.
- Negotiate trading terms to maximise margin and availability, and manage supplier performance.
- Collaborate with digital, e‑commerce, supply chain and operations teams to optimise online merchandising, promotions, pricing, customer journeys, forecast demand, manage stock levels and maintain availability.
- Improve stock turn, reduce wastage and enhance working‑capital performance.
- Partner with marketing to develop category‑focused campaigns, promotional strategies and educational content.
- Align promotional calendars and product launches with key seasonal moments and pet health cycles.
- Provide strategic direction to a growing team and build a dedicated trading function.
- Produce regular performance reporting, identifying risks and opportunities for growth.
- Lead product selection, merchandising, supplier relationships and emerging trend identification across categories.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing or a related field (MBA preferred).
- Proven experience in FMCG trading or category management, with extensive leadership experience.
- Strong knowledge of the Pet Health / Pharmacy / FMCG industry, market trends and supplier relationships.
- Proficiency in trading and inventory management software/tools.
- Analytical mindset with data‑driven decision making.
- Exceptional negotiation, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment and adapt to change.
- Experience working both collaboratively within a team and independently.
- Strong prioritisation and organisational skills.
Working Hours
37.5 hours per week, Monday – Friday. We operate on a core hours principle; core hours are 09:30 – 16:00, with flexibility to suit individual schedules.
