Are you an exceptional leader with a passion for transforming the lives of vulnerable young people through positive behaviour intervention?

We are seeking a resilient, empathetic, and highly skilled Pastoral Lead to take charge of our dedicated Internal Behaviour Unit / Inclusion Centre within a secondary academy in Blackpool. This is a critical leadership role responsible for the strategic management and operational delivery of our specialist provision for students who require intensive support to successfully reintegrate into mainstream lessons.

Core Responsibilities: Leadership and Transformation

You will champion a therapeutic and restorative ethos within the unit, ensuring it acts as a genuine stepping-stone back to mainstream success.

  • Unit Leadership: Take full responsibility for the day‑to‑day management and strategic development of the Behaviour Unit, ensuring a safe, structured, and nurturing learning environment.
  • Behaviour Intervention: Design, implement, and monitor highly personalised, intensive behaviour and SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) intervention programmes.
  • De‑escalation and Crisis: Act as the senior expert in de‑escalation and crisis management, modelling effective therapeutic and restorative strategies for all unit and academy staff.
  • Safeguarding: Work closely with the DSL (Designated Safeguarding Lead) team, managing complex student welfare cases and ensuring robust safeguarding practices within the unit.
  • Reintegration: Develop and manage successful reintegration pathways, setting clear targets and providing staff coaching to ensure students make a smooth and sustained return to the wider school.
  • Data and Reporting: Track, analyse, and report on behaviour data, intervention effectiveness, and outcomes, providing regular feedback to the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and Governors.
What We Are Looking For

The ideal candidate will have specialist experience in managing challenging behaviour and leading a team:

  • Experience: Significant, proven experience managing or leading a Behaviour Unit, Internal Exclusion, or Alternative Provision (AP) within a secondary school setting.
  • Leadership: Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and manage a team of support staff (TAs, Pastoral Workers) effectively.
  • Expert Knowledge: A deep understanding of trauma‑informed practice, restorative justice, and therapeutic approaches to supporting young people (KS3 / KS4 / KS5).
  • Skills: Exceptional skills in relationship building, communication, and conflict resolution with students, parents, and external agencies.
  • Resilience: High levels of professional resilience, patience, and a non‑judgemental approach.
