Carbon60 is recruiting a reliable and proactive Handyperson to support minor fabric maintenance, reactive repairs, and basic PPM activity across public-sector buildings in Dorset.

WORKING PATTERN

THE ROLE
This position involves delivering minor reactive repairs, carrying out low-level planned maintenance, undertaking housekeeping and grounds-related tasks, and supporting technicians across multiple public-sector sites. You will ensure safe access, maintain building integrity, and respond to basic maintenance issues within agreed timeframes.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- General Maintenance & Fabric Works
- Complete minor fabric repairs and reactive tasks issued through the helpdesk within required SLAs.
- Deliver low-level PPM tasks and proactive maintenance to support safe and compliant operation of the estate.
- Carry out basic plumbing tasks and monthly legionella checks.
- Maintain plant rooms and internal areas to an acceptable housekeeping standard.
- Site Safety, Security & Housekeeping
- Conduct daily walk‑rounds to assess building condition, internally and externally.
- Report defects promptly through the helpdesk; rectify minor H&S issues where capable.
- Attend and clear spillages, assist cleaning staff where necessary, and ensure safe access routes.
- Remove graffiti using appropriate methods and escalation where needed.
- Grounds & External Duties
- Support general grounds maintenance including litter picking, tidying external areas, emptying waste bins, and basic upkeep.
- Carry out winter gritting of staff/public walkways to maintain safe access.
- Operational Support & Coordination
- Assist Technicians and the Technical Supervisor with maintenance tasks and PPM completion.
- Manage contractor visits, ensuring risk assessments and working standards are adhered to.
- Maintain accurate records, administration, and compliance documentation.
- Engage proactively with building users to address concerns or escalation where required.
- Must be willing to travel between sites and work shift patterns as required.
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
- Trade Skills
- Experience or competency in joinery
- Basic plumbing
- General building and fabric repairs
- Other Requirements:
- Full UK driving licence (mobile role)
- Ability to work independently and safely
- Good customer interaction and communication skills
- Awareness of H&S, COSHH, risk assessments, and safe working practices
