Job description

Job Title: Groundworks Tutor

Location: HMP Highpoint

Salary: From £30,000

Contract: Permanent

Role Overview: The Groundworks Tutor will work in a prison-based role requiring full site presence and face‑to‑face engagement with learners. You will work with small groups to develop practical skills, knowledge, and behaviours that support their long‑term goals and reduce re‑offending.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver Streetworks/Groundworks qualifications up to Level 2.
  • Identify individual learner needs and create personalised learning plans linked to employment goals.
  • Prepare, deliver, and review comprehensive lesson plans covering vocational skills and employability.
  • Engage and motivate learners to increase retention and progression.
  • Provide constructive feedback and adapt curriculum content based on learner feedback.
  • Complete all required documentation (registers, enrolment forms, ILPs, reviews, awarding body paperwork) in line with contractual deadlines.
  • Ensure compliance with safeguarding, health & safety, and data protection standards.
  • Meet contractual KPIs and performance targets.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to support learner progression towards qualifications and employment.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and continuous improvement initiatives.
Essential Criteria
  • Level 2 Streetworks/Groundworks qualification.
  • Substantial vocational experience in Streetworks/Groundworks.
  • Experience delivering vocational training.
  • Ability to use diverse teaching methods to engage learners.
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills.
  • Understanding of safeguarding, equal opportunities, health and safety, and data protection.
Desirable Criteria
  • Teaching or assessment qualification (or willingness to work towards).
  • Experience developing curriculum and delivering roll‑on, roll‑off programmes.
  • Empathy and experience working with disadvantaged groups or in secure environments.
  • Knowledge of OFSTED Education Inspection Framework (EIF).

Experience with CITB accredited Civil Engineering modules and other construction training is an advantage but not essential.
