Job description

If you enjoy problem solving, thinking outside of the box, working within a high energy team and can react quickly to changes, then a career as an Engineer at Siemens Energy could be a great fit for you!

Responsibilities
  • As a power systems engineer, you will join a large HVDC project engineering team delivering both station-to-station and station-to-offshore projects within the UK and beyond.
  • You will be responsible for the study and simulation of the control and protection systems controlling the HVDC infrastructure, initially evaluating the effects on the connected electricity network and its interaction with other power generation systems, and then simulating the HVDC systems to ensure that designed solutions operate as expected when exposed to a variety of network fault and running conditions using our real‑time simulation equipment in the HVDC laboratories.
  • After a generalisation phase you will then specialise into a specific role within the team (e.g., system studies engineer, real‑time simulation engineer, DC controls engineer, or DC protection engineer).
  • Every project needs to be designed and optimised to ensure it delivers on value, efficiency and footprint. An engineer knows what needs to be achieved, how it will be achieved, how long it will take and how much it will cost and works with the project operations team to achieve the required outcomes.
  • You will develop these skills through a combination of classroom work and on‑the‑job activities at Siemens Energy.
Qualifications
  • An MEng degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering or Power System Engineering, or a higher qualification (PhD or MSc) in the above with a supporting engineering degree.
  • 3 A Levels (or equivalent), preferably including Maths and Science.
  • Enthusiasm for a career in Renewable Energy project delivery.
  • A passion to work within an agile team environment.
  • It would be beneficial, although not essential, for applicants to have some relevant industrial experience (e.g., summer placements or internships).
  • Must be flexible and adaptable.
  • Must be a confident communicator and proactive problem solver.
