Overview

HMP Thameside is a category B remand prison located in South East London, close to Plumstead and Woolwich Arsenal stations. The prison houses around 1,232 patients with a variety of needs including substance misuse and mental health. In this busy healthcare environment, no two days are the same. Ideal applicants will enjoy a fast-paced role and have prior experience with substance misuse prescribing. Applicants with an interest in delivering training and development for junior prescribing staff are welcomed. Hours: Monday 9am-5pm, Wednesday 9am-5pm

Job summary

Provide general practitioner services in a prison setting, delivering first-class healthcare to a diverse patient group and contributing to clinical governance and continuous improvement. Salary up to £130,000 FTE per annum depending on experience. How we will support you: bespoke induction including Introducing Health in Justice training, competency framework, regional and national career development opportunities, bespoke Learning Management System, support from the wider team. Candidates must have the legal right to work in the UK; offers are subject to additional vetting and security checks.

Main duties of the job
  • Deliver first-class healthcare to a diverse group of patients and develop knowledge beyond standard practice in areas you would not normally experience in a practice or A&E environment.
  • Provide clinical assessment and diagnosis and make timely decisions regarding management.
  • Provide a highly specialist resource to other members of the healthcare team and participate in clinical governance and effectiveness activities.

Qualifications required
  • MBChB or MBBS
  • Inclusion on the GMC Register and GP Performers List
  • Evidence of engagement with annual appraisal
  • Experience as a General Practitioner in community general practice
  • Evidence of continuing professional development
  • Ability to work with patients with a history of substance misuse
  • RCGP Certificate in Substance Misuse 1 and 2, or willingness to undertake
